I read and didn't like this book before I learned about Card's homophobic political leanings. So, in a way, I was able to experience and judge this book on its own merits without knowledge of the author's rather vocal opinions and personality. The book on its own is intriguing (interesting premise + exploration of interesting subject matter), I think. However, both story and main character are unconvincing and unbelievable, respectively. Card has an interesting writing style though and I rather liked his world building efforts. So one star for the story and another star for the Enderverse.— — — — —I have read Card's letters, essays, calls to arm, etc. and I find him both dangerous and disturbing. Anyone who does not see that is either in denial or in agreement with him. Seriously though, he's using his fame and profit to support anti-gay organizations, and he's vocal about it. Needless to say, I will never read any of his books ever again and I will certainly not see the Ender's Game movie. How anyone is able to separate an author's works from his/her political beliefs and just "enjoy" the works on their own is beyond my understanding.
