This book should come with or at least be advertised with a trigger warning due to the violent rape and subsequent murder scenes near the beginning. While I understand what the author wants to convey with this book, I find the writing style and tone overly maudlin and, at times, sappy. Which is hard to avoid, I suppose, since it's a story about a recently deceased girl narrating her story from the beyond. I also understand that the content of this book is based on / inspired by the author's traumatic rape experience, which is horrifying on its own, but the execution of the story is rather sentimental and somewhat cheesy, which ends up drawing too much on the reader's emotions, as if forcing you to feel what the characters are feeling. I find that manipulative and do not like books that do that purposely.
